Thesedays there are several posts talking about why people decide to write in English having a different mothertongue.

If I get a good answer about why people write their LinkedIn profiles in English and not in their own language maybe I could change my mind.

LinkedIn users also play on this league, don´t they?

Don´t get me wrong. This is the only space I really own, and in my apartment I walk naked, I can do whatever I want. I wrote in Portuguese for 3 years and people out there really appreciated. If somehow I get to know another language I will also try to write in that language. Why not?!!

Justice is an electronic French group known for adding a strong rock influence on their music. It is the most successful group of Ed Banger Records.

But we´re not here to talk about dance music. We´re going to talk about DVNO, one of their songs, released on May 19, 2008. DVNO stands for “Divino”; according to the group, “In every suburb of the world, in every city, there’s always a nightclub called El Divino… Clubs where you have to wear a white shirt to get in”.

The clip of this single it´s an knot out flashback to the 80´s, using typos, graphics, resources and effects from the emerging computer era. The company behind this job is Machine Molle, a motion and graphic design company based in Paris.

An absolutely must to be seen clip for those crazy about retro and typos (Vídeo YouTube 3:00):

BTW, they run an online shop quite interesting: Six Pack France.

An easy-to-use interface, nice screen transitions, minimal visual design, 3G connection and much more stuff… but something´s missing on the iPhone: Lack of customization.

One of the most important features of this kind of gadgets is to make it unique, personal, yours. Other mobile devices allow you to change everything: Keyboards, skins or hang small funny figures on the corners… On the iPhone you can add nice screensavers, and get it black, white or even red, but that´s all.

This is the only choice you have to make it different from the rest:

iPhone customization

Do not put three in the same table or you´ll pick the wrong one for sure…

Interaction design definition

One of the most beautiful definitions about Interaction design is Mr. Bill Verplank´s model. According to Mr. Verplank, Interaction design involves answering three simple questions:

1. How do you do? What sort of ways do you affect the world: poke it, manipulate it, sit on it?
2. How do you feel? What do you sense of the world and what are the sensory qualities that shape media?
3. How do you know? What are the ways that you learn and plan (or perhaps, how we want you to think)?”

I personally find the first question as the main column of this definition: Interaction implies touching, manipulating, poking things. The second and the third one put on the table the role of emotions and experiences, working in synergy but maybe playing a less important role.

This definition is even more powerful when narrated by him, drawing explicative sketches while defining the concept. You can see him in action at the promotional website of the Designing Interactions´s book.

Some of these beautiful sketches can be seen at his personal website or having a look at the extended definition of Interaction design.

Scenario: My MacBook was wrecked a few weeks ago. Several series of the Seagate hard disk were corrupted and I am one of the lucky owners… I decided to write a detailed letter to Apple, describing what happened and what I wanted from them (data recovery from the Seagate hard disk, money back for the new hard disk I purchased and a new MacBook with no problems…).

Today I received a phone call from Apple support. At the other side of the line, Mss Vanesa Venegas, in charge of the Apple support area. The conversation was more or less like this:

Vanesa Venegas (V.V.) - Hi, This is Vanesa Venegas, could I speak to Mr. Leal?
Juan Leal (J.L.) - Hi, Vanesa, this is Juan Leal speaking.
(V.V.) - Mr. Leal, after reading carefully the letter you sent us I have to say that we understand your problem.
    (J.L.) - Oh, really?
(V.V.) - Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we can´t do anything for you.
    (J.L.) - Anything?
(V.V.) - Anything, Mr. Leal, I´m sorry about that. I understand you.
(J.L.) - And… Why are you calling me? Just to tell me that can´t do anything?
(V.V.) - No, no. I am calling you to offer you something more. Listen, if you have any problem in the next six months just call me, I´ll see what can I do. This is my personal number.
(J.L.) - But… I don´t understand anything, Vanesa… You´re calling me to tell me that you can´t do anything for me BUT, you´re giving me your personal number in case of having any problem in the future?!
    (V.V.) - Herrr, yes… Mr Leal. I understand you…
(J.L.) - Well, Ok Vanesa. I won´t keep your personal number but, I will keep your name if you don´t mind.
(V.V.) - Ok, Mr Leal. Thank you.
    (J.L.) - Bye

And, that´s all folks! Another wonderful piece of brilliant service from AppleCare Support!! Nice, huh?!

Thank you, Vanesa Venegas!
